What Kurt Steele Loves About the Puritans!

English Puritans

The world hates the Lord and so has the world hated the Lord's faithful ones. These were men driven by spiritual priorities. The puritans have been stereotyped for years as stern and legalistic. The propaganda on these men are pictured as "killjoys".

The historical puritans were not even close to the stereotypical puritans in our history books.

In 1938 and 1939, 4 North American scholars changed the face of Puritans studies forever:

William Haller wrote the volume, "The Rise of Puritanism"
Marshall Knappen wrote the book, "Tutor Puritanism"
Perry Miller released the work, "The New England Mind"
ASP Woodhouse penned, "The Puritan and Liberty"

Their writings released facts that the Puritans were good sense of humor and a life that enjoyed the fine things that God had created to enjoy. They found pleasure and enjoyment from the world which God created for His glory.

What was the ideal Puritan like?

Puritans Honored God Above All
Puritan’s First Care was to Serve God
Puritans Saw The Word of God is the First Rule of Worship
Puritans Highly Esteemed Order in the House of God
Puritans Saw the Minister As A Sinner Saved by Grace Not Higher than Congregation
Puritans Rejected Ceremonies that are Not Prescribed in the Scriptures
Puritans were Committed to Prayer - In Closet, Family, and Public Assembly
Puritans were not Silent in Their Prayers But Prayed Fervently Out Loud
Puritans saw Extemporary Prayer and Liturgical Form Equally Appreciated
Puritans Committed to Private and Public Reading of Scripture
Puritans saw Biblical Exposition was Crucial
Puritans were Clear and Relevant in Preaching
Puritans saw Best Preaching as Preaching that Focused on Affections (Mind and Emotions)
Puritans saw Preaching that Must Make the Christian Life Joyful and Affection
Puritans saw Cheerfulness as a Revered and Radiated Attitude in Puritan Virtues
Puritans Commitment to the Lord’s Day as the Christian Sabbath
Puritans saw The Lord’s Day is the Market Day for the Soul

John,

This is a fantastic resource and site. I believe that Christians must come together and pray for revival in our nation.

TheAmericanView.com is a winner...

Thanks,
